-- Billy And The Troll --

If I call this a "Novelty Tune," that tells you pretty near nothing, but that's what it is, I suppose, in the same sense that Edvard Grieg's

"In the Hall of the Mountain King," Leroy Anderson's "Typewriter Song,"or anything from Prokofieff's "Peter and the Wolf" is a

"novelty tune."    What it really was intended to be is a musical representation of the old folk tale "The Three Billy Goats Gruff," as

the title implies, in the same sense that Grieg and Prokofieff composed music for the stories cited. (Ibsen's "Peer Gynt," in the case

of Grieg.)     With this orchestration, it's a job for the Radio City Music Hall orchestra, the Boston Pops, or some such, and the "genre"

is probably best called "Stage band music." or simply "orchestral."     Is it classical?     Not.    Haydn did not  have access to a synth bass.
